Abstract

Abstract The alleged talk by a certain leader of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee tramples on the Constitution of the People's Republic of China and deviates from the basic spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the Party's Eleventh Central Committee. The editorial department solemnly declares its position as follows: 1. The masses of the people, in keeping with the Constitution, exercise their rights in freedom of speech, correspondence, publication, assembly, association, procession, demonstration and the freedom to strike, and also the right to "speak out freely, a i r their views fully, hold great debates, and write big-character posters." These are activities beyond reproach and a r e totally legitimate. Those who vainly attempt to prevent the people from pushing history forward will certainly come to no good end.
