Abstract

The examples analyzed in this thesis demonstrate three primary conclusions. First, the achievement of regional security can be created with the assistance of an offshore balancer or through an arduous process of long-term confidence building. Second, institutions are most likely to have their greatest success in achieving the economic interests of states after security fears have been ameliorated. Third, non-violent means of conflict resolution are necessary to ensure successful regional cooperation and institution building.
