Abstract

Background: Emerging evidence in the 1990’s and early 2000’s showed increased morbidity and mortality associated with late-term (35-36 weeks Estimated Gestational Age (EGA)) and early-term (37-38 week EGA) delivery prompted recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and a national campaign by the March of Dimes to reduce and eliminate these deliveries. Induction before 39 0/7 weeks EGA should be for a medical indication for mother or fetus. Starting in 2010 a Nebraska taskforce partnered with hospitals to revise policies regarding these deliveries.
