Abstract

Bamboo is a naturally sustainable material that has been used in construction for a very long time. Investigations on the feasibility of using bamboo for reinforcing concrete have been carried out by various researchers. However, the lack of construction codes and design procedures for bamboo-reinforced concrete (BRC) structures is preventing structural engineers and construction firms from using bamboo in construction. The aim of this work was therefore to review various BRC structural elements, including beams, columns, slabs and walls, in order to develop guidelines for using them confidently.
