Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to review theoretical and design advances for composite bridges between 1970 and the present, 1992. As such, only references specifically related to composite bridges are included. Topics of specific interest have been identified: the steel sub-structure, the concrete slab, shear connectors, loads and load distribution, serviceability, maintenance, repair and rehabilitation. Trends influencing composite bridge design and future research needs are also identified.
