Abstract

SUMMARY: Historical archaeology can be defined as the specialty that deals with the recent human past, in America’s case, since the arrival of the Europeans to the continent, through the material evidence of human activities and other sources of information. Works carried out within this scope deal with multiple topics and from different theoretical perspectives. Many epistemological debates have taken place on the definition of historical archaeology and the use of different sources of information. Conceptualizations should not be imposed uncritically, as local processes vary greatly. The topics developed in Argentina during the last 25 years reflect its maturity in the country and the diversity of problems that can be studied by this field of knowledge.
