Abstract

This paper presents a survey of knowledge-based system applications to power system problems. Among the diverse areas of application, ten frequently investigated subjects are selected: alarm reduction, fault diagnosis, steady-state and dynamic security assessment, restoration, remedial controls, environments for operational aids, substation monitoring and control, maintenance scheduling, and expert system development methods and tools. The accomplishments and limitations of existing approaches and the needs for future research are discussed.
