Abstract

Conclusion: In patients hospitalised with HF, anaemia is common, and is associated with renal impairment, hyponatremia, relatively preserved systolic function, and less ACE inhibitor use. Themajority of patients had normal red cell parameters, making simple iron deficiency an unlikely cause. Anaemia identifies patients at increased risk for both HF and nonHF readmissions. In conclusion, anaemia is a common, multifactorial and potentially treatable cause of adverse cardiac and non-cardiac outcomes in patients with HF.
