Abstract

The studies on lead and cadmium contents in soil and selected vegetables from 415 garden allotments complexes in 32 towns situated in the Upper Silesia Region (USR) of Poland were carried out at the Institute for Ecology of Industrial Areas in 80’s. Garden complexes include 100 thousand plots. Assuming that an average family consists of four people, the problem may affect 400 thousand people. Heavy metal concentrations in soil and such vegetables as: parsley, celery, carrot and red beet, were determined by AAS method.
