Abstract

Increasingly, state administrative records (AR) are being utilized to guide policy decisions. In addition, longitudinal data systems have been developed from these AR systems, and implemented to provide a cohort approach to policy questions. This paper will address some of the developments of the state longitudinal data system for education and workforce in Washington state as well as discuss some of the limitations conducting statistical research with these data. In addition, the paper will provide examples for the six key uses of longitudinal data as outlined by Dougherty et al. (Data Qual Campaign Using Data Improv Stud Achiev 2(4):1, 2007).
