Abstract

Abstract The use of stable isotope tracers to investigate the kinetics of metabolites in vivo is relatively new, and approaches to modeling dynamic tracer data are not still widely adopted. We discuss here the application of multicompartmental modeling to stable isotope tracer data. The goal is the definition of state and output variables for the mathematical formulation and identification of the system-experiment model since different choices are available for stable isotope kinetic variables. Various aspects of multicompartmental modeling and identification both in and out of steady state are addressed.
