Abstract

Tourist attractions are often fragile and need efficient management to sustain the positive benefits while reducing the negative impact of tourism on the local community. The attraction could be a destination such as a city or a museum. The Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC) model propounded by Richard W. Butler in the 1980s is widely used by scholars. The TALC model has retained its relevance even today after four decades. The current case study narrates the life cycle of six tourism destinations in India’s newly formed state province. The case study helps learners understand the life stages of a destination and the implication of the destination life cycle on tourism planning and marketing.
