Abstract

In this paper we describe the results of an investigation of the laser and spectroscopic properties of the 4I11/2→4I13/2 transition of Er3+:LiYF4(YLF). This laser transition has previously been observed in CaF2 (1,2,3), GdAl03 (4), Y3Al5O12 (5), LUAl5O12 (6), Er3Al5O12 (6), YAlO3 (7), and Y0.8Gd0.2ScO3 (7). The best laser performance reported in previous studies was achieved in 30% Er:YAG(8).
