Abstract
Growth and geotropic reaction were studied in apple embryo axes free from starch statoliths as a result of gibberellin and temperature treatments. No positive geotropic response was observed in the starch-free, geotropically stimulated embryonal axes while unstimulated ones showed serious disturbances in the rectilinear growth. The starch statoliths are suspected to be involved in processes responsible for the symmetry of growth.
