Abstract
Star charts are used as orientation and navigation aids in manned space flight. The assistance a crewman receives from such an aid is proportional to the realism of the projection. This can range from one which merely portrays the relative location of the stars to a catalogue of charts which shows the visible stars for all nominal situations throughout the mission. The most desirable display is one which can readily be used in a spacecraft environment and can portray a specialized view for star recognition and attitude orientation without losing mission flexibility.
