Abstract

ABSTRACTDemands to support the mental health needs of children continue to rise as complex stressors create obstacles for development. School-based art therapy helps students organize the chaos of their internal worlds and their often less than favorable realities. Standing Tall, an exhibition of body tracings, was the culmination of workshops offered to public school students aimed to build adaptive coping skills. Students engaged in group discussions and created poses of strength in their body tracings. This article describes details of this brief intervention. This school-wide program enabled students to participate in art therapy workshops that fostered resiliency and provided validation.
