Abstract

Until recent times, little attempt has been made to draw up design standards for loading and unloading ramps. A standard double deck loading ramp was designed in 1976 in Queensland and since then they have been installed at all major saleyards and abattoirs, as well as on some larger properties. Positive, practical aspects of animal behaviour research have been incorporated into ramp designs. This paper describes minimum design standards applicable to loading and unloading facilities for cattle.
