Introduction

Efficient and timely access to evidence-based health literature is an important element in the provision of safe patient care. The 1995 CHLA Standards for Library and Information Services in Canadian Healthcare Facilities needed to be revised. The Library and Information Service is integral to developing systems and delivering services to meet the knowledge and evidence-based information needs of the organization and is a key collaborator in any information management initiative.
