Abstract

From e.m.f. measurements of the cell: Pr|Hg1−x|TIBr|KBr(ym)+KNO3{1−y)m}|KNO3(m)|KCl(ym)+KNO3{(1−y)m}|TlCl|TlxHg1−x|Pt combined with recent literature data for the (thallium amalgam + aqueous thallous chloride) electrode and for thallium concentration cells, the standard potentials have been determined for the (thallium amalgam + aqueous thallous bromide) electrode from 283.15 to 343.15 K and for the corresponding (thallium + aqueous thallous bromide) electrode from 288.15 to 308.15 K, together with the thermodynamic solubility product of aqueous TlBr from 283.15 to 343.15 K.These quantities can be represented respectively by the equations: E°(TlxHg1−x+TlBr/V=−0.873694+0.00195153(T/K)−3.65713 ×10−6(T/K)2, E°(Tl+TlBr/V=−0.899461+0.00191912(T/K)−3.63157 × 10−6(T/K)2, log10K°s= 21.7123 −5724.61 (T/K)− −0.0267349(T/K).Standard thermodynamic function at 298.15 K for cell and electrode reactions and for the TlBr species have been obtained thereform.
