Abstract
This month’s Oncology Scan focuses on 3 recent randomized trials that add to the growing literature on altered fractionation for women with early-stage breast cancer. The Danish and the Chinese experiences study moderate hypofractionation, in which whole breast radiation in the experimental arm is completed within 3 weeks. In each of these studies, hypofractionation proves to be no less effective than the more protracted traditional 5 weeks. Even more convenient is the British 5-fraction regimen, with treatment completed in 1 week. This month’s Oncology Scan summarizes these new trials and offers our perspective on their integration into modern practice.
