Abstract

The molar standard (p°=0.1 MPa) enthalpies of formation at T = 298.15 K of theophylline, theophylline-7-acetic acid, 7-(β-hydroxyethyl) theophylline and 7-(2,3-dihydroxypropyl) theophylline, in the crystalline phase, were derived from the respective massic standard energies of combustion, determined experimentally in a static bomb combustion calorimeter. The molar standard enthalpies of formation in the gas phase were calculated from the molar enthalpy of formation in crystalline phase and the molar enthalpy of sublimation determined by thermogravimetry. Additionally, the melting temperature and enthalpy of fusion of all the compounds were determined by differential scanning calorimetry.
