Abstract

The standard enthalpies of formation of aluminides in the binary systems Y+Al, Zr+Al, Nb+Al, Mo+Al and I'd + Al have been determined by direct synthesis calorimetry at 1473 ± 2 K. The results are compared with earlier experimental data and with predicted values from Miedema's semi-empirical model. In systematic graphs the enthalpies of formation of the 4d-aluminides are compared with enthalpy data for the corresponding borides, germanides and silicides.
