Abstract

Educational leadership plays a key role in improving school outcomes by influencing the motivations and capacities of teachers, as well as the school climate and learning environment through distributed leadership. Chapter 7 assists principals in understanding how, as an effective leader, to develop the professional capacity and practice of school personnel to promote each student’s academic success and well-being. Effective school leadership is essential for improving the efficiency and academic and social-emotional equity of school. Effective educational leaders purposefully focus attention on supporting the continuous development of teachers and staff, and concentrate on their own, ongoing, professional development throughout their career (PSEL, 2015, p. 14, National Policy Board for Educational Administration. http://www.npbea.org" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">www.npbea.org/psel). In essence, you as an effective leader need to know the value of and how to distribute leadership. Finally, you must know how to promote the personal and professional health, well-being, and work–life balance of faculty and staff while attending to your own health and wellness as a model to others.
