Abstract

Partial Shading Condition (PSC) is an inevitable phenomenon that reduces the PV system’s efficiency. Designing a suitable MPPT controller which distinguishes the Global Maximum Power Point (GMPP) from other Local Maximum Power Points (LMPP) is inevitable. This paper proposes a Modified Variable Step Size Perturb & Observe (M VSS P&O) Maximum Power Point Tracking Technique (MPPT) for standalone Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) system with a two phase Interleaved Boost Converter (IBC). The proposed MPPT can handle PSC in a very efficient way. The complete system is mathematically modeled and built in MATLAB/Simulink, simulated for various cases of shading conditions. The superiority of the proposed MPPT is confirmed by analysing the tracking time and efficiency of the system with classical P&O MPPT.
