Abstract

We demonstrated a simple external-cavity configuration to effectively suppress the spectral bandwidth of a high-power laser diode (LD) stack. The external cavities consisted of a set of microcylindrical lenses for fast-axis collimation and a single volume Bragg grating. On the basis of this configuration, we reduced the bandwidth from 2.34 to 0.36 nm (6.5-fold reduction) and achieved a peak power output of 335 W. The external-cavity LD stack showed very good spectrum stability in the entire current and wide temperature ranges considered.
