Abstract

Isothermal undercooling growth and Nd123 thin film seeding technique are applied for Y 1.8Ba 2.4Cu 3.4O y /Ag system to seek the high efficiency of process, homogeneity of composition, and feasibility of scalable production. Seeding with Nd123/MgO thin films remains to be effective on controlling Y123 nucleation and domain growth as the highest processing temperature is extraordinarily high. Elongated seed exhibits the availability to increase preferential nucleation sites and to enhance dominant growth. Single-domain growth is discussed in view of nucleation period of random domain as well as the suppression of further crystallization close to sample edge.
