Abstract

Multi-dineutron configurations surrounding a nuclear core are investigated by use of effective interactions. A coupled set of non-linear differential equations for the wavefunctions are derived and solved. Correlations between the many neutrons are important for weakly bound systems and several configurations of spatially extended structures are found to be either stable or nearly stable. High degeneracy of the dineutron levels increase the stability and “magic” numbers appear. The exotic structures are most likely to show up in light neutron drip-line nuclei.
