Abstract
Lattice oxygen instability is a critical issue limiting the commercialization of lithium nickel oxide (LNO) cathodes. In this issue of <i>Chem</i>, Zhou et al. report a design promoting the intralayer migration of Ni upon delithiation, producing vacancy clusters to trap O2 inside the lattice, which could address its instability in high-energy cathodes.
