Abstract

A stable passively Q-switched Nd:YAG/Cr/sup 4+/:YAG microchip laser is presented. For repetition rates between 1 and 100 kHz, interpulse timing jitter and amplitude variation are better than /spl plusmn/1 and /spl plusmn/0.6%, respectively. It was experimentally demonstrated that multi-amplitude-pulse generation at high pulse repetition rates is due to multi-longitudinal-mode operation.
