Abstract

Spherical hafnia nanoparticles have been prepared by laser ablation. The particle size has been shown to decrease with increasing incident laser intensity. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy data demonstrate that incident intensities above 5 × 109 W/m2 ensure the formation of the high-temperature (tetragonal and cubic) phases of hafnia. The nanoparticles obtained in this study exhibit good thermal stability.
