Abstract

Abstract Treatment of fibronectin with either methyl mercuric bromide or iodoacetamide as sulfhydryl blocking agents added substantial protection against precipitational losses that ordinarily occur in purification, storage and freeze-drying. Simple procedures are described for incorporating mercurial into the protein in course of affinity purification to yield stable preparations, and for removing the mercurial when needed to regenerate its sulfhydryl groups. The sulfhydryl groups are not required for activity of the protein in mediating absorption of macroaggregated albumin by liver slices.
