Abstract

With the ultimate aim of improving the stability of the halophilic α-amylase obtained from Halobacterium halobium, it was immobilized in calcium alginate in the presence of glutaraldehyde. The immobilized enzyme retained its activity for a longer period and showed an increase in stability. The performance of immobilized amylase was tested using a laboratory scale upflow packed bed reactor.
