Abstract

Renewable energy such as wind energy has attracted special interest from the viewpoint of stability of energy supply nowadays. However, power system including large-scale wind farm (WF) can become unstable during a fault condition because of the instantaneous voltage drop and frequency fluctuations when WF is decoupled in accordance with the grid code of Fault Ride Through (FRT) requirement. This paper presents a new control strategy by High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission line. The proposed system controls active power and reactive power delivered to the grid from HVDC line during a fault condition. The effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed by simulation analyses.
