Abstract

The behavior of geodesics and test minimally coupled scalar waves on the Bell-Szekeres space-time is used to probe the nature of the quasiregular singularities present. Components of the stress-energy tensor in a parallel-propagated orthonormal frame diverge as does a stress-energy scalar at the quasiregular singularities. It is argued that this divergence makes the singularities unstable, converting them into scalar curvature singularities.
