Abstract
In this paper, a finite element program that can simulate non-linear joints and geometry non-linearity was developed and a large scale test rig was used to study the mechanism of the voussoir beam. The deformation and failure mechanism are analysed and equations and methods for strength estimation are proposed. Furthermore, the effects of multiple mid joints and applications to the stability analysis of a jointed roof are presented.
