Abstract

Resistance of a group of alfalfa clones to the pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris), and the spotted alfalfa aphid, Therioaphis maculata (Buckton), did not differ significantly at 85° F, but varied differentially with duration at 60° following the temperature change. The resistance of one group of clones remained high and relatively stable at 60° in 4 tests initiated 1, 3, 7, and 14 days after the temperature change. Conversely other clones were characterized by a sudden shift from resistant at 85° to susceptible at 60°. Other clones were distinguished by a progressive type of loss of resistance at the low temperature. All clones rapidly regained resistance when the temperature was returned to 85°
