Abstract

Thirty orthodontically treated cases, all requiring first premolar extraction and edgewise mechanics, were measured before treatment, following treatment, and after a minimum retention period of 6 months. Measurements used were overbite, overjet, intercanine width, and mandibular plane angle. Conclusions included the fact that relapse is a reality in intercanine width and in overbite-overjet correction. Reasons are given why overbite correction is desirable, even if relapse appears inevitable.
