Abstract

The dynamic stability of elastic frames subjected to a vertical sinusoidal base excitation is considered. A simple matrix decomposition technique is used for developing sufficient stability conditions for the equilibrium state. Several examples concerning the stability of single and multi-degree-of-freedom structures are studied. The results are compared with those obtained by a digital simulation technique.
