Abstract

The linear and nonlinear stage of development of instability of Couette flow with two free boundaries is studied. It is established that instability occurs only for long waves, and the critical wave number is computed. In the presence of surface-tension forces, instability is preserved only at Weber numbersWe ≤ 1/3.
