Abstract

The stability of coronal loop plasmas heated by direct current dissipation is studied. The current contributes not only to the heating but also to the energy transport. Although the latter point was stressed by Hinata, it has been neglected in previous stability analyses. We obtain the dispersion relation for a current-carrying plasma with these two effects taken into account.
