Abstract

A computer program that determines the position of converging shocks and monitors the decay of radial perturbations of the shock fronts, described by their amplitude Δr and their center angle γ has been developed. With this program a region of stability for spherical and cylindrical shocks of different Mach numbers has been found, where perturbations will disappear before the wave has collapsed. The model was tested by comparison with an experiment and an analytically approximate model.
