Abstract

A simple calculation that includes the separation of an electron in its ground state from a helium surface eliminates a contradiction between previous theoretical calculations and experimental results on the stability of charged thin helium films. Thin charged helium films on smooth substrates are found to be stable against surface fluctuations for all electron densities.
