Abstract

The thermal profile of a Bi-2223/Ag tape with 55 filaments surrounded by oxide barriers was studied by a numerical simulation. The temperature distribution within the tape cross-section was calculated by commercial finite element method software. The simulations were performed when the tape was immersed in liquid nitrogen bath and carried a steady-state over-critical current with power law current–voltage characteristic in zero external magnetic field.
