Abstract

We consider a liquid bridge with a free surface held together by surface tension and with prescribed volume and contact angle between two parallel plates in the absence of gravity. Using necessary and sufficient stability criteria, it is shown that the liquid bridge is stable if its shape is spherical and unstable if it is catenoidal.
