Abstract

In this study, the authors develop a methodology for quantitative assessment of the structural health of retaining walls, an alternative to the currently-used visual inspection methods. A series of model tests are conducted that show vibration tests to be an effective means of determining vibration characteristics of retaining walls, a measure of structural health. The authors suggest that small scale vibration tests can be successfully applied to the evaluation of structural health of existing retaining structures.
