Abstract

A simple and fast capillary zone electrophoresis method with direct ultraviolet detection has been developed for the quantitative analysis of veterinary drug florfenicol. Migration time of 1.22 minute was achieved using 1 mM borate buffer of pH 9.3 as background electrolyte. Limit of detection and limit of quantification for this method are 3.34 μg and 19.5 μg, respectively. Stability indicating assay of florfenicol is studied by exposing the drug to various stress conditions such as acidic, basic, oxidative, thermal, and ultraviolet for inducing degradation. This method was also employed for the analysis of florfenicol in its formulation and its residue in commercially available milk.
