Abstract

The performance of fixed speed wind turbines is less satisfactory than the modern variable speed wind turbines like Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG). Nowadays DFIGs are playing a significant role in wind turbine industry/wind power generation system due to some of it's special features. To improve the stability of existing fixed speed induction generator (IG) based wind farm different types of controlling strategies are used. In this paper it is seen that DFIG can be used to generate power as well as to increase the stability of an IG based wind farm without any controlling device. This study recommends/suggests to use DFIG for increasing the total capacity of grid connected IG based wind farm. Thus the performance IG can be improved. The simulation analyses have performed using PSCAD/EMTDC software.
