Abstract

The Kelvin-Helmholtz mode instability driven by an equilibrium radial electric field in a cold plasma is studied analytically for flute-type perturbation in cylindrical geometry. The growth rate and a threshold in the radial gradient scale length of the E × B drift frequency for instability are obtained.
