Abstract

The method previously proposed 3 for determining the regions of multiple steady states is extended to cover non-first- order reactions and the more general reaction scheme ▪ It is shown that a knowledge of the bounds on the non-unique region can be used to examine the overall stability of the reactor by means of phase plane plots of temperature and concentration at various points through the reactor. It is then a simple matter to see if any part of this trajectory coincides with the non-unique region which can be drawn in advance for any given reactor.
