Abstract

Viewed as a dynamical system, a renormalization group transformation can in principle exhibit quite complex behavior, such as limit cycles, intermittency and chaos. We investigate some of the physical consequences of this type of behavior, restricted here for simplicity to real space renormalization group transformations. Conditions for nonsingular behavior of given thermodynamic functions are derived.
